Description

We are now looking for a school counselor for Sjumilaskolan!

Sjumilaskolan is a F-6 school in northern Biskopsgården with about 350 wonderful students and 50 competent and dedicated staff members.

The school has two assistant principals who together are responsible for the school's pedagogical and ongoing work. The school is part of school area 20 together with Nya Skolan, with a shared principal for the school area.

Job Responsibilities

As a school counselor, you will be part of the school's student health team and contribute with psychosocial expertise at the organizational, group, and individual levels. In student health, you collaborate with the school nurse, special educator, psychologist, school doctor, and principal. The team's mission is to work together with the principal and working groups to promote health and prevent issues to strengthen children's and adolescents' opportunities to achieve their goals.

Your responsibilities include participating in the school's ongoing value-based and safety work, support conversations, collaborating with and supporting guardians, consulting with staff, and providing interventions in groups/classes. You will also conduct school social investigations and assessments before admission to adapted primary school and investigate student absenteeism. Furthermore, you will collaborate with external actors such as social services, habilitation, UPH, and BUP.

Within the primary school administration, you will participate in professional meetings once a month with counselor colleagues and professional developers, as well as engage in external supervision. As a new counselor, you will also receive an introduction and a mentor.

The position is a temporary contract lasting for 6 months.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a degree in Social Work or equivalent higher education. We prefer that you have experience working as a counselor and experience working with children and youth. You have a good ability to express yourself in speech and writing as you document your work in PMO, and you have good knowledge of the Social Services Act and the Education Act.

Additional merits include:

  • Training in conversation methodology/supervision

As a person, you are stable, empathetic, unpretentious, and secure in your professional role. You have a strong commitment to the psychosocial situation of children and youth and the ability to meet people in various life situations. You enable children's storytelling and contribute to highlighting students' participation and perspectives.

You find it easy to build relationships and are professional and respectful in your interactions with students, guardians, and colleagues. You need to have an interest in working in an educational environment and in teams with different professions.

In your work, you are structured and clear, and you have the ability to take initiative and make decisions within the framework of your assignment. You also prioritize your efforts together with the principal and other student health staff. You enjoy working with complex issues, see opportunities, and are creative. You remain calm in difficult situations and can make well-founded decisions under time pressure.
